Receiving Too Many Comelit False Notifications? Here is How to Fix It
A Comelit security system is an excellent tool for keeping your property safe, but a constant stream of false notifications can quickly become frustrating. Alerts for swaying trees, passing cars, or changing shadows not only disturb your day but can also lead to "alert fatigue," where you might ignore a genuinely important notification.
This guide will walk you through the practical steps you can take to fine-tune your Comelit system and significantly reduce the number of unwanted alerts.
Step 1: Identify the Cause of the False Alerts
Before you start changing settings, take a moment to observe what is causing the notifications. Watch the live view or check the event recordings that triggered the alerts. Common culprits include:
- Moving Trees and Plants: Branches, bushes, and their shadows swaying in the wind are a primary cause.
- Headlights and Reflections: Passing cars at night can cause sudden changes in light that trigger motion detection.
- Public Areas: A camera aimed towards a busy pavement, road, or neighbour's garden will constantly detect movement.
- Weather: Heavy rain, snow, or even fog can sometimes be misinterpreted as motion.
- Insects and Animals: A spider building a web over the lens or a wandering pet can set off an alert.
Step 2: Adjust Motion Detection Sensitivity
The simplest adjustment you can make is to lower the motion sensitivity. This tells the camera to ignore smaller or less significant movements.
- Open your Comelit app or access your system's configuration panel.
- Select the specific camera you want to adjust.
- Navigate to the "Motion Detection" or "Event Settings" section.
- You should see a slider or a numerical value for "Sensitivity".
- Lower the setting by a small amount (e.g., from 80% to 60%).
- Save the changes and monitor the results for a day before lowering it further. Finding the right balance is key; you do not want to make it so insensitive that it misses a real event.
Step 3: Use Motion Detection Zones and Exclusion Areas
This is one of the most powerful tools for eliminating false alerts. Motion detection zones allow you to select specific parts of the image to monitor for movement while ignoring others.
- Set Up Active Zones: In the motion detection settings, you will likely see a grid overlaying your camera's view. You can use this to draw one or more boxes around the areas you care about, such as your driveway, front door, or garden path. The camera will now only trigger an alert if motion occurs inside these boxes.
- Use Exclusion Zones: Conversely, some systems allow you to draw "exclusion zones" or "privacy masks". This is perfect for telling the camera to ignore specific areas. Draw a box over the busy public pavement or the tree that constantly moves.
Step 4: Leverage Advanced Detection Features
Many modern Comelit systems, especially those with AI capabilities, offer more intelligent detection methods. Check your settings for features like:
- Person Detection / Humanoid Detection: This is the most effective feature for reducing false positives. When enabled, the system uses artificial intelligence to analyse movement and will only send an alert when it specifically identifies the shape of a person.
- Vehicle Detection: Similar to person detection, this will only notify you when a car, van, or lorry enters the monitored zone.
By enabling these smart detection features, you can effectively filter out all the environmental noise and focus only on the events that truly matter.
By systematically working through these steps, you can transform your Comelit system from a source of noisy interruptions into a precise and reliable security tool.
