Comelit Geofencing Not Working? Your Troubleshooting Guide
Geofencing is one of the most powerful features of a modern Comelit smart security or home automation system. It uses your smartphone's location to automatically trigger actions—such as opening your gate as you approach home, disarming the alarm system, or turning on the lights. When it works, it's seamless. But when Comelit geofencing is not working, it can be a major source of frustration.
If your system isn't responding to your arrival or departure, this guide will help you diagnose and fix the problem. The issue is almost always located in the settings of your smartphone, not the Comelit system itself.
Understanding the Common Points of Failure
Geofencing relies on a chain of communication: your phone's GPS determines its location, the phone's operating system tells the Comelit app, and the app securely communicates with your home system. A failure at any point in this chain will break the feature.
Common symptoms include:
- Actions are not triggered when you enter or leave the defined geographical zone.
- The feature only works intermittently.
- It works for one user but not another.
- You receive false notifications that you have left the zone while you are still at home.
- The feature stops working after a phone operating system update.
How to Fix Comelit Geofencing Issues
Follow these steps carefully on the smartphone that is having the problem.
1. Check and Optimise Location Settings
This is the most critical step. For geofencing to be reliable, the Comelit app needs constant, precise access to your phone's location.
- Set Location to High Accuracy:
- Android: Go to Settings > Location. Ensure 'Location' is on. Tap on 'Location services' or 'Advanced' and set the mode to High Accuracy (using GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks).
- iOS (iPhone): Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Ensure 'Location Services' is on.
- Grant Precise Location Permission:
- Find the Comelit app in your phone's settings (Settings > Apps > Comelit on Android, or Settings > Comelit on iOS).
- Go to its Location Permission.
- Set the permission to Allow all the time or Always. This is essential for the app to know your location even when it's not open on the screen.
- Ensure the Use precise location switch is turned on.
2. Disable Battery Optimisation for the Comelit App
Modern smartphones are very aggressive in closing background apps to conserve battery. This is a major cause of geofencing failure. You must tell your phone to leave the Comelit app alone.
- Android: The path varies by manufacturer, but look for Settings > Apps > Comelit > Battery. Select Unrestricted or Don't optimise. This prevents the Android system from putting the app to sleep.
- iOS (iPhone): Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Find the Comelit app in the list and ensure its toggle is on. This allows the app to run checks in the background.
3. Ensure a Stable Data Connection
The Comelit app needs to send a message to your home system via the internet when you cross the geofence boundary.
- Enable Mobile Data: Ensure the Comelit app has permission to use mobile data. In the app's settings on your phone, check that 'Mobile Data' is enabled.
- Disable Data Saver: If you have a 'Data Saver' or 'Low Data Mode' enabled on your phone, it might be preventing the app from communicating in the background. Try disabling this feature.
4. Re-configure the Geofence in the Comelit App
If your settings seem correct, the geofence zone itself might need a refresh.
- Open the Comelit app.
- Navigate to the Geofencing or Automation section.
- Delete the existing geofence zone.
- Create a new one. When setting the location, ensure the pin is placed accurately on your home.
- Adjust the radius of the zone. If you're experiencing false triggers, try making the circle slightly larger. If it's triggering too late, try making it a little smaller, but not so small that minor GPS drift triggers it.
- Save the new zone and re-link the desired actions (e.g., open gate).
5. Check User and System Settings
- Multi-User Setup: If multiple people are using the feature, ensure each person has the app installed and configured correctly on their own device.
- System Online: Verify that your Comelit master unit (e.g., the VEDO alarm panel or SimpleHome hub) is online and connected to the internet. If the main system is offline, it cannot receive commands from the app.
By meticulously checking and correcting your smartphone's settings, you can overcome the most common obstacles and restore the convenience of a fully functional Comelit geofencing system.
