Solving Comelit System Synchronisation Problems
A Comelit video intercom or security system relies on perfect synchronisation between its components—the external door station, the internal monitor(s), and the mobile app. When this sync fails, you can lose video, audio, and the ability to control access, compromising your security and convenience.
This guide provides a systematic approach to diagnosing and resolving the most common sync issues with Comelit systems, from simple connection problems to more complex configuration errors.
Understanding How Comelit Systems Sync
Synchronisation ensures that when a visitor presses the call button, the correct internal monitor rings, and the mobile app receives the notification. It also keeps settings consistent across all devices. This communication can fail due to:
- Power Issues: One or more devices are not receiving adequate power.
- Network/Wiring Faults: A problem with the physical connection between devices.
- IP Address Conflicts: Two devices on the network are trying to use the same address.
- Configuration Errors: Incorrect Master/Slave settings or software parameters.
- Software Glitches: A temporary issue that can be resolved with a reboot.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide
Follow these instructions to get your system back in sync.
1. Check Power and LED Indicators
First, confirm that every component in the system is powered on. Look at the status LEDs on each device. A solid green or blue light usually indicates normal operation, while a red or flashing light often signals a fault. Consult your Comelit manual to understand what the LEDs on your specific model mean.
2. Perform a Full System Reboot
A simple power cycle can often resolve temporary communication glitches.
- Power off all Comelit devices: the master monitor, any slave monitors, and the external door unit.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds. This allows the internal components to fully reset.
- Power the devices back on, starting with the Master unit first.
- Allow a few minutes for the system to re-initialise and attempt to sync.
3. Inspect All Wiring and Network Cables
A loose or damaged cable is a very common culprit.
- For IP Systems: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely plugged in. Try swapping the cable with a known good one to rule out a faulty cable. Check the port on your network switch as well.
- For 2-Wire Systems: Carefully inspect the bus wiring between the units. Ensure the connections are tight and there are no signs of corrosion or damage. Verify that the wiring conforms to the diagram in your installation manual.
4. Verify Network and IP Configuration
For IP-based Comelit systems, network settings are critical.
- Check for IP Conflicts: Ensure no other device on your network is using the same IP address as one of your Comelit units. You can use a network scanning tool to see a list of all devices and their IPs.
- Confirm Gateway and DNS: Log in to the device's web interface (if available) and confirm that the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS settings are correct for your network.
5. Review Master/Slave Configuration
In systems with multiple internal monitors, one is designated as the "Master" and the others as "Slaves".
- Ensure that only one device is configured as the Master.
- Verify that the Slave units are correctly configured to connect to the Master unit's IP address or ID. An error in this configuration will prevent the slave units from syncing.
6. Contact Professional Support
If you have worked through all the steps above and your system still refuses to sync, there may be a more complex hardware fault or configuration issue. At this point, it is best to contact the professional who installed your system or an authorised Comelit technical support provider for assistance.
