How to Fix a Blurry Eufy Security Camera
A blurry video feed from your Eufy camera can be frustrating, making it difficult to see faces, number plates, or other important details. Usually, the cause is simple and easy to fix. Follow these troubleshooting steps to restore a sharp, clear image.
## Step 1: The Essential Lens Check
This might seem obvious, but it's the solution for a majority of blurry video issues.
- Clean the Lens: Over time, the camera lens can accumulate dust, dirt, fingerprints, pollen, or water spots. Use a clean, dry microfibre cloth (the kind you'd use for eyeglasses) to gently wipe the lens.
- Avoid Damage: Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning sprays, or abrasive materials like paper towels or your t-shirt. These can leave behind residue or create tiny scratches that permanently degrade image quality.
- Remove Protective Film: If your camera is brand new, double-check that you have removed the thin layer of clear plastic film that protects the lens during shipping. It's easy to forget and will make everything look out of focus.
## Step 2: Check for Moisture and Condensation
Condensation is a common issue, especially for outdoor cameras in climates with fluctuating temperatures.
- Foggy Appearance: If the video looks foggy or hazy, particularly in the morning or at night, it's likely condensation. This can happen on the outside of the lens or, in some cases, on the inside.
- The Solution: Often, simply wiping the exterior with your microfibre cloth is enough. If you suspect moisture is trapped inside, you may need to bring the camera into a dry, indoor environment for several hours to allow it to acclimatise and for the internal moisture to evaporate.
## Step 3: Evaluate Your Wi-Fi Connection
A weak or unstable Wi-Fi signal can directly impact video quality. To provide a smooth stream, the Eufy app will automatically reduce the video's resolution and bitrate if your connection is poor. This can look like blurriness or heavy pixelation.
- Check Signal Strength: Go into the Eufy Security app, select your camera, and find the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator. If it shows only one or two bars, the signal is weak.
- Improve the Signal:
- Move your Wi-Fi router closer to your Eufy camera.
- If you can't move the router, consider installing a Wi-Fi extender or a mesh Wi-Fi system to provide a stronger signal to the camera's location.
- Minimise physical obstructions (like thick brick walls or large metal objects) between the router and the camera.
## Step 4: Night Vision Specifics
If your video is only blurry when night vision is active, the problem is likely related to the camera's infrared (IR) lights.
- IR Bounce-Back: The IR lights can reflect off nearby surfaces, like a windowsill, a soffit, or even a wall close to the camera. This reflection floods the lens with light, making the image look hazy and out of focus. Try repositioning the camera so there's nothing within a few feet of the lens's direct view.
- Clean the Lens (Again): Dust and smudges are much more visible under infrared light, so a dirty lens will look significantly worse at night.
## Step 5: Power Cycle the Camera
If none of the above steps work, try a simple restart.
- For battery-powered cameras: Turn the camera off via the app settings, wait a minute, then turn it back on.
- For wired cameras: Unplug the camera from its power source, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
This can clear any temporary software glitches that might be affecting the image processing.
