Troubleshooting Common Ezviz Motion Detection Issues
An Ezviz camera is a powerful tool for home security, but only if its motion detection is working correctly. Whether you're getting bombarded with false alarms or, even worse, the camera is missing important events, a few simple adjustments in the Ezviz app can usually solve the problem.
This guide provides clear instructions to help you configure your Ezviz camera's motion detection for optimal performance.
Understanding the Problem: Too Many or Too Few Alerts?
Most motion detection issues fall into two camps:
- Too many false alarms: You get notifications for everything – swaying branches, changing light, insects, and passing cars.
- Missed events: Your camera fails to detect a person walking up your path or a car pulling into your driveway.
Other related symptoms include:
- Delayed notifications.
- The motion detection schedule not working as intended.
- No recordings being saved despite motion occurring.
How to Optimise Ezviz Motion Detection Settings
All the necessary tools are located within the Ezviz app on your smartphone. Open the app and select the camera you wish to configure.
1. Adjust Detection Sensitivity
This is your primary control for how much movement is required to trigger an alert.
- How to find it: From your camera's live view, tap the Settings icon (the gear symbol) in the top-right corner. Go to Alarm Notification.
- Adjust the slider: You will see a Detection Sensitivity setting, often a slider from 1 (Low) to 6 (High).
- If you're getting too many false alerts, lower the sensitivity.
- If your camera is missing events, increase the sensitivity.
- Test: Make a small adjustment and monitor the results before making further changes.
2. Set a Customized Detection Area
This is a hugely powerful feature for eliminating alerts from predictable sources of movement. It allows you to tell the camera exactly where to look for motion.
- How to set it up: In the Alarm Notification menu, find and tap on Drawing a motion detection area.
- Draw your zone: You'll see a grid overlay on your camera's view. Tap and drag to draw one or more boxes around the specific areas you want to monitor. For example, draw a box over your garden path but exclude the public footpath next to it. Any motion outside your custom zone will be ignored.
3. Enable Human Shape Detection
Many modern Ezviz cameras have AI-powered human detection, which is the best way to filter out irrelevant alerts.
- How to enable it: In the Alarm Notification menu, look for an option like Human Shape Detection or Person Detection.
- How it works: When enabled, the camera's software analyses the motion to see if it matches the shape of a person. It will then only send you a notification for these specific events, ignoring animals, vehicles, and other movements.
4. Check Your Notification Schedule
It's possible that motion detection is working, but your notifications are turned off.
- Notification Schedule: In the Alarm Notification menu, check the Notification Schedule. Ensure it is not set to a "silent" mode or scheduled to be off during the times you expect to receive alerts.
- Arm/Disarm Setting: On the main app screen, ensure your camera is "Armed". If it is in "Sleep Mode" or "Disarmed", it will not send notifications.
By combining these settings, you can fine-tune your Ezviz camera to be a highly accurate and reliable security device.
