Is Your Ezviz Camera's Motion Detection Too Sensitive?
While receiving timely motion alerts is a key benefit of your Ezviz security camera, a constant barrage of notifications for insignificant events can quickly become frustrating. If your phone is buzzing every time a car drives by, a tree branch sways, or a shadow moves, your motion detection settings are likely too sensitive. These excessive false alarms can cause you to start ignoring important notifications altogether.
The good news is that you have powerful tools within the Ezviz app to fine-tune your camera's motion detection. By adjusting a few key settings, you can dramatically reduce unwanted alerts while still being notified of genuine events.
Why Your Ezviz Camera is Sending So Many Alerts
Understanding the cause of the false alarms is the first step to fixing them. Ezviz cameras primarily use pixel-based motion detection. This means the camera is triggered when it detects changes in the pixels that make up the image. While effective, this method can be triggered by many things other than a person approaching your property.
Common Triggers for False Alarms:
- Environmental Movement: Swaying trees, bushes, or flags moving in the wind.
- Changing Light: Fast-moving clouds creating shadows, or car headlights sweeping across the view.
- Insects and Animals: Spiders building webs in front of the lens, flying insects, or wandering pets.
- High Sensitivity Setting: The detection sensitivity may simply be set too high for your specific environment.
- Reflections: Movement seen in window reflections or puddles of water.
How to Reduce False Alarms on Your Ezviz Camera
Follow these steps to intelligently configure your camera and regain control over your notifications.
1. Adjust the Motion Detection Sensitivity
This is your primary tool for controlling alerts. A lower sensitivity means a more significant change in the image is required to trigger an alert.
- Open the Ezviz app and select the camera you want to adjust.
- Tap the gear icon to go to Settings.
- Select Alarm Notification.
- Find the Detection Sensitivity slider. It usually ranges from 1 (Lowest) to 6 (Highest).
- Lower the sensitivity one level at a time. Test the camera for a few hours or a day to see if the number of false alarms decreases.
2. Configure a Motion Detection Zone
This is an extremely effective feature. It allows you to tell the camera to only watch for motion in specific parts of the image. For example, you can draw a zone around your driveway and gate, telling the camera to ignore the public street and pavement.
- In the Alarm Notification settings, look for Detection Area or a similar option.
- You will be shown a grid overlaid on your camera's view.
- Select only the squares that cover the area you want to monitor. Deselect any areas that have trees, busy roads, or other sources of constant motion.
3. Enable Human Shape Detection (If Available)
Many modern Ezviz cameras have advanced AI-powered features. 'Human Shape Detection' is the most powerful tool for eliminating false alarms. When enabled, the camera's processor analyses the motion and will only trigger an alert if it recognises the shape of a person.
- Look for Human Shape Detection or AI Detection in your camera's settings.
- Enable this feature. This will automatically filter out alerts from animals, vehicles (unless you also enable vehicle detection), and other general movements.
4. Ensure Your Firmware is Up to Date
Ezviz frequently improves its detection algorithms through firmware updates. An older firmware version might be less effective at filtering out false alarms.
- In the camera Settings, go to Device Information or About.
- Check for a Firmware Update and install it if one is available.
By combining these methods—starting with sensitivity adjustments, then creating precise detection zones, and finally enabling human shape detection—you can transform your notification experience from noisy to necessary.
