Ezviz Camera Won't Pair? Here's How to Fix It
Setting up a new Ezviz security camera should be a straightforward process of scanning a QR code and connecting to Wi-Fi. However, if you've run into a "Pairing Failed" error or the camera simply won't connect, it can be very frustrating. The good news is that most pairing issues are common and can be solved with a few simple troubleshooting steps.
This guide will walk you through the most frequent reasons why an Ezviz camera won't pair and how to resolve them quickly.
## The Most Common Issue: Wi-Fi Configuration
Your home Wi-Fi network is the most likely source of any pairing problem. Here’s what you need to check.
### Connect Your Phone to the 2.4GHz Network
This is the number one rule for setting up almost any smart home device, including Ezviz cameras.
- The Requirement: Ezviz cameras can only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. They are not compatible with 5GHz networks.
- The Problem: Your Wi-Fi router likely creates two networks (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Your phone might connect to the 5GHz one by default. The Ezviz app needs your phone to be on the 2.4GHz network to properly configure the camera.
How to Fix This:
- Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone.
- Look at the list of available networks. You'll likely see two similar names, such as "MyHomeNetwork" and "MyHomeNetwork-5G".
- Connect your phone to the network that does NOT have "5G" in the name.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password carefully. It is case-sensitive, so check for typos.
- Restart the pairing process in the Ezviz app.
## Check the Camera's Status Indicator Light
The small LED light on your Ezviz camera is your best friend for diagnostics. It tells you exactly what the camera is doing.
- Fast-Flashing Blue Light: This is what you want to see. It means the camera is in pairing mode and ready to be set up.
- Solid Blue Light: The camera is already connected to a Wi-Fi network and is functioning correctly.
- Slow-Flashing Red Light: There is a network connection error.
- Solid Red Light: The camera is booting up.
What to Do: If the light is not fast-flashing blue when you want to start the setup, you need to perform a factory reset. Press and hold the reset button (usually a small button on the back or near the SD card slot) for 5-10 seconds until you hear a prompt or see the light change. The camera will then reboot into pairing mode.
## QR Code Scanning Issues
The Ezviz app uses the QR code on your camera to identify it. If the app isn't scanning the code, try these tips.
- Good Lighting: Make sure you are in a well-lit room without a strong glare on the QR code sticker.
- Clean the Sticker: Ensure the QR code sticker is clean and not smudged or damaged.
- Hold Steady: Hold your phone about 15cm (5-6 inches) away from the code and give your phone's camera a moment to focus properly.
- Manual Entry: If scanning still fails, don't worry. The Ezviz app has an option to manually enter the serial number. The 9-digit serial number is printed directly on the sticker, usually right below the QR code itself. Just type it in to proceed.
## Other Important Checks
- Proximity: During the initial pairing process, make sure your camera, your phone, and your Wi-Fi router are all in the same room and relatively close to each other. This ensures a strong signal for a successful setup. You can move the camera to its final location after it's paired.
- App Permissions: Ensure the Ezviz app has permission to use your phone's camera (to scan the QR code) and Location (on Android, this is needed to scan for Wi-Fi networks).
By methodically working through these steps—checking your Wi-Fi, verifying the camera's status light, and ensuring a clean QR code scan—you can overcome almost any pairing issue with your Ezviz camera.
