How to Fix Friedland Continuous Recording Problems
While motion-based recording is great for saving power and storage, continuous video recording (CVR) provides a complete, uninterrupted record of events. If you've enabled this feature on your Friedland camera but find it's not working correctly, this guide will help you troubleshoot the common causes of recording failures and gaps in your video timeline.
1. Verify Your Subscription Plan
For many smart security cameras, CVR is a premium feature. The first step is to ensure your account has the correct subscription plan that includes 24/7 recording for your specific camera model.
- Check Your Plan: Log in to your Friedland account on the app or website. Navigate to the "Subscription" or "Billing" section and confirm that your plan explicitly lists "Continuous Video Recording" or "CVR" as a feature. If you are on a basic or free plan, the camera will likely only record clips when motion is detected.
2. Check Your MicroSD Card's Health and Compatibility
If your camera records continuously to a local microSD card, the card's health is critical. CVR is extremely demanding and can quickly wear out standard memory cards.
Ensure Card Compatibility
- Use a High-Endurance Card: For CVR, you must use a high-endurance microSD card. These are specifically designed to handle the constant read/write cycles of security cameras. Using a standard card will lead to premature failure and recording errors.
- Check Speed and Capacity: Ensure the card is at least Class 10 (or V10) and has sufficient capacity to store the footage you need before it gets overwritten.
Format the SD Card
Corruption in the SD card's file system is a common cause of recording failures. Formatting the card erases all data and can resolve these issues.
- Format in the App: Do not format the card in a computer. Use the formatting option within the Friedland app's camera settings. This ensures the card is formatted with the correct file system that the camera requires. It's good practice to reformat the card every few months to maintain its health.
3. Ensure a Stable Power Supply
Continuous recording requires the camera to be active 24/7, which consumes a lot of power. This feature is typically only available on wired, mains-powered cameras, not battery-powered models.
- Check Power Cable: Ensure the power cable is securely connected to the camera and the power outlet.
- Use Original Adaptor: Always use the original Friedland power adaptor to guarantee the camera is receiving the correct voltage and amperage. An underpowered adaptor can cause the camera to reboot or stop recording intermittently.
4. Check In-App Recording Settings
Double-check that the recording mode is configured correctly within the Friedland app.
- Navigate to Settings: Select your camera in the app and go to its "Storage" or "Recording" settings.
- Select Continuous Recording: Ensure that "Continuous Recording" or a similar 24/7 option is selected, not "Event Recording" or "Motion-activated."
- Check Overwrite Setting: Make sure the "Loop Recording" or "Overwrite" option is enabled. If this is turned off, the camera will stop recording once the SD card is full.
5. Update Firmware and App
A bug in the camera's firmware or the mobile app could be causing the recording issue.
- Update Firmware: In the camera's settings, check for a firmware update and install it if available.
- Update App: Go to your phone's app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) and check for updates to the Friedland app.
