Geeni Camera Notifications Arriving Too Late? Here's the Fix
A security camera's value depends on timely alerts. If you receive a motion notification from your Geeni camera minutes after the event happened, it's often too late to act. Whether you're missing a package delivery or being alerted to a visitor long after they've left, delayed notifications are a critical issue to solve.
This guide will help you troubleshoot the common causes of notification delays for Geeni smart cameras and restore their real-time performance.
Step 1: Diagnose Your Wi-Fi Connection
The single biggest cause of delayed alerts is a poor or unstable network connection between your Geeni camera and your Wi-Fi router.
Check Signal Strength:
- Open the Geeni app and select your camera.
- Go to the device Settings (usually a "..." icon in the top right).
- Look for Device Info or a similar menu.
- You should see a Wi-Fi Signal Strength indicator. For real-time alerts, this should ideally be more than 75%. If it's lower, the camera is struggling to send data quickly, which causes delays.
How to Improve Wi-Fi Signal:
- Move the Router Closer: If possible, move your Wi-Fi router closer to the camera.
- Eliminate Obstructions: Thick walls, metal objects, and large appliances between the router and camera can block the signal.
- Use a Wi-Fi Extender: If you cannot move the router, a Wi-Fi range extender placed halfway between the router and the camera can boost the signal significantly.
- Connect to 2.4GHz: Geeni cameras only work on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. This band has a longer range than 5GHz but can be more congested. Ensure your camera is connected to the correct network.
Step 2: Adjust Your Smartphone's Settings
Your phone's operating system often tries to save battery by restricting what apps can do in the background. This can prevent the Geeni app from receiving notifications instantly.
For Android Users:
- Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Geeni.
- Tap on Battery.
- Select Unrestricted to prevent the system from putting the app to sleep.
- Go back and tap on Mobile data & Wi-Fi, and ensure Background data is enabled.
For iPhone Users:
- Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
- Scroll down to Geeni and make sure the toggle is ON.
- Also, avoid using Low Power Mode, as this can delay all push notifications.
Step 3: Update Everything
Running old software can cause bugs and performance issues.
- Update the Geeni App: Check the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to make sure you have the newest version of the Geeni app installed.
- Update Camera Firmware: In the camera's settings within the Geeni app, look for a Firmware Update option. Install any available updates to ensure the camera is running the latest, most efficient software.
Step 4: Reboot Your Devices
A simple restart can often clear up temporary glitches that cause lag.
- Reboot your Camera: Unplug your Geeni camera from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Reboot your Router: Unplug your internet router, wait a minute, and plug it back in. Give it a few minutes to fully restart and reconnect to the internet.
By ensuring your camera has a strong Wi-Fi signal and your phone is configured to receive alerts instantly, you can eliminate the frustrating delays and get the real-time security monitoring you expect from your Geeni camera.
