How to Fix the Merkury (Geeni) App When It's Not Loading
The Merkury Innovations smart home ecosystem, powered by the Geeni app, allows you to control a wide range of devices from your smartphone. However, when the app itself fails to load, gets stuck, or crashes, it can bring your smart home to a standstill. This guide provides simple, effective steps to resolve these common app-related issues.
Step 1: Force Close and Relaunch the App
Often, an app can get stuck in a bad state in your phone's memory. A force close is a hard reset for the app that can clear the immediate problem.
- On iOS (iPhone X and later): Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle. Swipe left or right to find the Geeni app, then swipe up on its preview to close it.
- On iOS (iPhone 8 and earlier): Double-press the Home button to see your recent apps, then swipe up on the Geeni app's preview.
- On Android: Open Settings -> Apps -> Geeni. Tap on Force Stop.
After closing the app, wait a few seconds and try to open it again. This simple action resolves a surprising number of issues.
Step 2: Clear the App's Cache (Android Only)
Over time, an app's cache can become cluttered or corrupted, leading to loading problems. Clearing it removes temporary data without deleting your settings or device configurations.
- Go to Settings -> Apps.
- Find and tap on the Geeni app.
- Tap on Storage.
- Tap the Clear Cache button.
- Try to launch the app again. Do not tap 'Clear Data', as this will reset the app completely and require you to log in again.
Step 3: Restart Your Smartphone
A full device reboot can solve deeper issues with your phone's operating system or network connections that might be affecting the app.
- Press and hold the power button on your phone.
- Choose the Restart or Reboot option.
- If those options aren't available, select Power Off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn your phone back on.
- Once your phone has fully restarted, try opening the Geeni app.
Step 4: Check for App Updates
Running an old version of the app can cause instability. Developers regularly release updates to fix bugs and improve performance.
- Open the Google Play Store (on Android) or the App Store (on iOS).
- Search for "Geeni".
- If the page shows an Update button, tap it to install the latest version. If it only shows an 'Open' button, you are already on the latest version.
Step 5: Check Your Internet Connection
The Geeni app needs to communicate with its cloud servers to load your devices.
- Try opening a web browser on your phone and navigating to a website to ensure your internet connection is working.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and your mobile data connection. If the app loads on one but not the other, you have identified a problem with that specific network.
Step 6: Reinstall the App
If none of the above steps have worked, a full reinstallation is the final step. This will clear all local data and install a fresh copy of the application.
- Uninstall: Press and hold the Geeni app icon on your home screen and select Uninstall (Android) or Delete App (iOS).
- Reboot: Restart your phone one more time to clear out any residual files.
- Reinstall: Go back to the Google Play Store or App Store, search for Geeni, and install it again.
- You will need to sign in with your username and password. Your device settings and schedules are saved to your account in the cloud and should reappear after you log in.
