Has Your Netatmo Camera Stopped Working? Here's How to Fix It.
Your Netatmo Smart Outdoor or Indoor Camera is a reliable part of your home security, so it's concerning when it suddenly stops working or appears as "unreachable" in the app. The good news is that the cause is usually a simple power or connectivity issue that you can resolve yourself.
This troubleshooting guide will walk you through the most common reasons for a Netatmo camera failure and provide clear, step-by-step instructions to get it back online and protecting your home.
Step 1: Diagnose the Power Supply
Before diving into complex network issues, let's confirm the camera is receiving power. This is especially relevant for the Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren.
- Check the Floodlight: The easiest test is to see if the floodlight works. In the Netatmo Security app, try to manually turn on the floodlight.
- If the Floodlight Does NOT Turn On: This points to a power issue.
- Check Your Fuse Box: The most likely culprit is a tripped circuit breaker. Go to your consumer unit (fuse box) and check if the switch for the circuit the camera is on has tripped.
- Check a Nearby Switch: If the camera is wired into a switch, ensure it hasn't been accidentally turned off.
- If the Floodlight DOES Turn On: This is good news! It means the camera has power, and the problem is almost certainly related to its Wi-Fi connection.
Step 2: Troubleshoot the Wi-Fi Connection
A lost Wi-Fi connection is the most common reason for a Netatmo camera to go offline.
- Reboot Your Camera: A simple restart can often re-establish a lost connection. Go to your fuse box and turn off the breaker that powers the camera. Wait for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Give the camera a few minutes to boot up and try to reconnect.
- Reboot Your Router: The problem might be with your router, not the camera. Unplug your internet router from the power, wait a minute, and plug it back in. This will restart your entire network.
- Check for Wi-Fi Changes: Have you recently changed your Wi-Fi password, network name (SSID), or installed a new router? If so, your camera doesn't know the new credentials. You will need to go through the camera installation process again in the app to connect it to the new network.
- Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength: Was your router moved recently? The camera may now be in a location with a weak Wi-Fi signal. Try moving the router closer to the camera if possible, or consider installing a Wi-Fi mesh system or extender for better coverage.
Step 3: Inspect the SD Card
If the camera is online and you can see a live stream, but it's not recording any new events, the issue may be with the internal microSD card.
- Power Cycle the Camera: First, try the reboot process described in Step 2. This can sometimes resolve temporary SD card errors.
- Reformat the SD Card: If the problem persists, the card's file system may be corrupted. You can reformat the card from within the Netatmo Security app's settings. Warning: This will erase all footage currently on the card, so be sure to download any important videos first.
- Replace the SD Card: microSD cards have a finite lifespan, and the constant writing of video data can cause them to fail. If reformatting doesn't help, you may need to replace the card. Use a high-quality, high-endurance microSD card designed for use in security cameras.
By systematically checking the power, Wi-Fi, and SD card, you can solve the vast majority of issues that would cause your Netatmo camera to stop working.
