Sricam Camera Stopped Working? Here's Your Troubleshooting Guide
It can be unsettling when you open the Sricam app only to find your camera is offline or has stopped working. A security camera is only useful when it's reliable. Fortunately, most issues that cause a Sricam camera to stop working can be resolved with a few logical steps. Whether you're dealing with a power issue, a network problem, or a software glitch, this guide will help you diagnose the fault and get your camera back online.
First Steps: The Initial Checklist
Before you assume a major hardware failure, let's cover the basics. These simple checks resolve the problem more often than not.
1. Check the Power Supply
This might seem obvious, but it's the most common culprit.
- Is it plugged in? Ensure the power adapter is firmly seated in a working wall outlet and the cable is securely connected to the back of your Sricam camera.
- Is the outlet working? Plug a lamp or another small device into the same outlet to confirm it has power.
- Check the LED Light: Does the camera have a status LED? Is it on, off, or flashing a specific colour? A completely dark LED is a strong indicator of a power problem. Consult your manual to understand what the different LED states mean.
- Inspect the Cable: Look for any visible damage, kinks, or cuts in the power cable or adapter.
2. Check Your Wi-Fi Network
If the camera has power but is still offline in the app, the issue is likely with its connection to your network.
- Is your internet working? Check if other devices in your home, like your smartphone or laptop, can connect to the Wi-Fi and access the internet.
- Reboot Your Router: This is a crucial step. Unplug your internet router from the power outlet, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Give it a few minutes to fully restart and re-establish a connection with all your devices, including your camera.
- Router Position: Has anything changed in your home? A new piece of furniture or a large metal object placed between the router and the camera can weaken the Wi-Fi signal. The ideal connection requires a strong, stable signal.
Deeper Troubleshooting Steps
If the initial checks didn't bring your camera back to life, it's time to dig a little deeper.
Step 1: Power Cycle the Sricam Camera
This is different from just checking the power. A power cycle forces the device to reboot its internal software, which can clear up temporary glitches.
- Unplug the camera's power adapter from the wall.
- Wait for at least 30-60 seconds. This allows the internal components to fully discharge.
- Plug the camera back in and give it a few minutes to boot up and try to reconnect to the network.
- Check the app again to see if the camera is now online.
Step 2: Check the Sricam App
Sometimes the issue can be with the app on your phone rather than the camera itself.
- Update the App: Go to your phone's app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) and check for any updates to the Sricam app.
- Restart the App: Close the app completely (from the recent apps menu) and then reopen it.
- Re-add the Camera: If the camera still shows as offline, try deleting it from the app and then adding it again as a new device. You will need to be near the camera to do this.
Step 3: Perform a Factory Reset
This is the last resort for software-related problems, as it will erase all of your settings, including your Wi-Fi configuration.
- Locate the Reset Button: The reset button is typically a small, recessed button on the back or bottom of the camera. You will need a paperclip or a similar small tool to press it.
- Press and Hold: With the camera powered on, press and hold the reset button for 15-30 seconds. The camera will usually make a sound or its LED light will flash to indicate that the reset process has begun.
- Release and Wait: Release the button and allow the camera a few minutes to reboot to its factory default state.
- Set Up Again: Once reset, you will need to go through the initial setup process in the Sricam app, just like you did when the camera was new. This includes connecting it to your Wi-Fi network again.
When to Suspect a Hardware Failure
If you have performed a factory reset and the camera still won't power on (no LED light) or cannot be detected by the app, you may be facing a hardware issue. At this point, the best course of action is to contact Sricam customer support for further assistance or to inquire about warranty options.
