Unifi IFTTT Integration Not Working? A Guide to Automation Fixes
The integration between Unifi and IFTTT (If This Then That) allows for powerful automations that can elevate your smart home or office. Whether you're using Unifi Protect camera events to trigger lights or Unifi Network events to log activity, a broken connection can disrupt your entire workflow.
If your Unifi-powered IFTTT applets are failing or not running at all, this guide will help you troubleshoot the connection and get your automations back on track.
## Step 1: Check the Connection in IFTTT
Your first stop should be the IFTTT platform itself to check the status of the connection and look for any error messages.
- Log in to IFTTT: Open the IFTTT app or website.
- Review Applet Activity: Navigate to the specific Unifi applet that is failing. Check its activity log. IFTTT is good at reporting failures and will often show an error message like "There was a problem with the Unifi service" or "Applet failed to run."
- Inspect the Unifi Service: In your IFTTT account, go to the My Services tab and find Unifi. If there's an issue with the authentication, it will often be flagged here.
## Step 2: Re-authenticate Your Unifi Account
The most frequent cause of a failed IFTTT integration is an expired or broken authentication token. This can happen for security reasons, or if you've recently changed your Ubiquiti account password.
- From the My Services tab in IFTTT, select Unifi.
- Click the Settings (gear) icon.
- Choose the Reconnect or Re-authorise option.
- You will be redirected to the Ubiquiti login page. Log in with your standard ui.com credentials.
- This action will generate a new secure connection between IFTTT and your Unifi account. After it's done, it's a good idea to manually test one of your applets.
## Step 3: Verify Remote Access for Your Unifi Console
For IFTTT to work, its servers need to be able to communicate with your Unifi Console (e.g., UDM Pro, Cloud Key). This communication happens over the internet, which means Remote Access must be enabled.
- Log in locally to your Unifi Console.
- Go to the main Settings of the console.
- Find the Remote Access or Cloud Access section.
- Ensure that it is enabled and shows a status of "Online" or "Connected."
- If remote access is disabled or offline, IFTTT will not be able to receive any information from your Unifi devices, and your applets will fail.
## Step 4: Check Triggers within Unifi Protect/Network
If the IFTTT connection seems fine, the issue may be that the trigger event is never happening in the first place.
- For Unifi Protect: Are you using a motion detection trigger? Go into your Unifi Protect dashboard and confirm that the camera in question is actually detecting motion and creating recordings. If motion detection is turned off or the sensitivity is too low, it will never send an event to IFTTT.
- For Unifi Network: Are you using a "client connects to network" trigger? Check your Unifi Network client history to ensure the device is actually connecting and disconnecting as you expect.
## Step 5: Recreate the Applet
As a final troubleshooting step, a specific applet's configuration might have become corrupted. Deleting and recreating it can often resolve these strange issues.
- Make a note of your applet's settings.
- Delete the failing applet from your IFTTT account.
- Create a new applet from scratch, carefully re-selecting the Unifi trigger and the desired action.
- Test the new applet.
By systematically checking the IFTTT service connection, your Unifi remote access settings, and the triggers themselves, you can resolve most issues preventing your Unifi and IFTTT automations from working correctly.
