Anti-social behaviour dominated Dacorum's crime profile in October 2023, accounting for nearly a third (29%) of all reported incidents. This category, at 2.2 per 1,000 residents, was 72% above the UK average, highlighting a significant local disparity. The overall crime rate of 7.6 per 1,000 residents placed Dacorum 5% below the UK average, a consistent trend likely influenced by the area's characteristics. With 496 property crimes and 270 violent crimes recorded, the balance between property and violent crime remained roughly equal, a pattern typical of mixed-use urban areas. Seasonal factors such as the clocks going back and darker evenings may have contributed to the rise in anti-social behaviour. Shoplifting, at 1.0 per 1,000 residents, also showed a 72% gap above the UK average, potentially linked to the area's retail presence. Conversely, violence and sexual offences were lower than the UK average, reflecting effective community policing or local initiatives. The data suggests a combination of seasonal rhythms and local demographics, with no single factor fully explaining the crime profile. While the rate is lower than the national average, the elevated levels of anti-social behaviour and shoplifting indicate areas for targeted intervention.
