November 2024 marked a notable shift in the crime profile of Rusthall and Langton Green, a built-up area within Tunbridge Wells. While the overall crime rate of 4.3 per 1,000 residents remains 43.4% below the UK average of 7.6, the month saw a concerning rise in specific categories that demand closer attention. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 29.4% of all crimes, with 10 incidents reported—a 42.9% increase from October. This spike coincides with the darker evenings of late November, a period when visibility challenges may contribute to higher rates of violent incidents. Anti-social behaviour, the second most common category, fell slightly by 11.1%, but the 23.5% share of total crimes still underscores the persistent issue of disruptive conduct in public spaces. Other theft emerged as a critical concern, surging by 200% to 6 incidents, reflecting a sharp upward trend that outpaces the UK average for this category by 45%. This increase may be linked to the commercial activity around Black Friday, a period when retail areas see heightened foot traffic and potential for opportunistic theft. The seasonal context of November—marked by Bonfire Night, the start of the Christmas shopping season, and reduced daylight—likely plays a role in shaping these patterns. While the area remains significantly safer than the UK average, the surge in certain crime types highlights areas requiring targeted awareness and community vigilance.
