Violent crimes dominated Southborough’s crime picture in December 2025, accounting for 50% of all reported incidents. At 3.2 crimes per 1,000 residents, the area’s crime rate remains 54.3% below the UK average of 7.0, a stark contrast that may be attributed to Southborough’s status as a built-up area within Tunbridge Wells, where community cohesion and local policing likely play a role. The seasonal context of December—characterised by Christmas shopping, extended evenings, and the presence of empty homes during holidays—may have influenced patterns. Violent crimes, which include assault and sexual offences, were 38% below the UK average, a figure consistent with the area’s relatively low levels of violent crime historically. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 23.5% of incidents, while property crimes such as burglary and theft accounted for just 17.6% of the total. This imbalance suggests that personal safety remains a higher priority for residents than property protection, though the 100% increase in burglary cases in December warrants further attention. The overall crime rate, while low, highlights the need for continued vigilance in addressing emerging trends, particularly in burglary, which may be linked to seasonal factors or shifts in criminal activity.
