LaView Not Recording 24/7? Here's How to Fix It
One of the primary reasons for investing in a security system like LaView is the peace of mind that comes with 24/7 recording. When you discover that your camera is only recording clips or has stopped recording altogether, it's a problem that needs immediate attention. This guide will help you troubleshoot the common reasons why your LaView system isn't recording continuously.
### Step 1: Verify the Recording Schedule
The most frequent cause of this issue is an incorrect recording schedule. Your system might be set to record only when motion is detected, rather than continuously.
#### For LaView NVR/DVR Systems:
- Access Your NVR: Log in to your NVR's interface using a connected monitor or via a web browser.
- Navigate to Schedule Settings: Go to Settings > Storage > Schedule. Some models may have this under Record > Schedule.
- Select Your Camera: Choose the camera that is not recording 24/7 from the dropdown list.
- Set to Continuous: You will see a timetable grid for the week. Ensure that the entire grid is coloured for "Continuous" or "Normal" recording (this is typically a green colour). If you see yellow ("Motion") or another colour, the schedule is not set for 24/7 recording.
- Apply to All: You can usually set the schedule for one day and then use a "Copy" function to apply it to all other days of the week and to other cameras if desired.
- Save: Click "Apply" or "Save" to confirm the changes.
#### For Standalone LaView Wi-Fi Cameras:
- Open the LaView App: Launch the app on your smartphone.
- Go to Camera Settings: Select your camera and find the settings menu (usually a gear icon).
- Find Storage Settings: Look for an option named "Continuous Recording" or "Storage Settings".
- Enable 24/7 Recording: Make sure the toggle for continuous recording is enabled. If it's set to "Event Recording" only, it will not record 24/7.
## Step 2: Check Your Storage Device (Hard Drive or SD Card)
If the schedule is correct, the next place to look is the storage medium itself.
- Is Storage Full?: Check the storage status in your NVR settings or app. If the hard drive or SD card is full and the "Overwrite" (or "Recycle Record") feature is turned off, recording will stop. Ensure Overwrite is set to ON or AUTO.
- Check Storage Health: Both hard drives and SD cards can fail. In the NVR's storage menu, there is usually a tool to check the health (S.M.A.R.T. status) of the hard drive. If it shows an error or "Uninitialized", the drive may need to be reformatted or replaced.
- Formatting: If you have installed a new hard drive or SD card, it must be formatted by the LaView system before it can be used for recording. You can find the "Format" option in the storage settings menu. Warning: This will erase all data on the drive.
- Use the Right Type of Storage: For NVRs, always use a surveillance-grade hard drive (e.g., WD Purple, Seagate SkyHawk). For cameras, use a high-endurance Micro SD card. Standard drives and cards are not designed for the constant writing demands of 24/7 surveillance and will fail prematurely.
### Step 3: Ensure the Camera is Powered and Online
A camera can't record if it's offline.
- Check Camera Status: In the NVR's camera management screen or in the app, verify that the camera has a status of "Online" or "Connected".
- Power and Connection: If a camera is offline, check its power supply and network cable (for wired cameras) or Wi-Fi connection (for wireless cameras). A faulty power adapter or a poor network connection can cause the camera to drop out and stop recording.
By systematically checking your schedule settings, storage health, and camera connectivity, you can solve the majority of issues preventing 24/7 recording on your LaView system.
